CuTerra, Latin for “copper land,” is Rio Tinto Kennecott’s land development venture. As part of managing its land holdings, Rio Tinto will sometimes develop parcels of land with community needs in mind. This effort is separate from its mining operations. For clarity and to better define these land development endeavors, Rio Tinto Kennecott created CuTerra Holdings LLC.

Rio Tinto is a global mining and metals company that explores, mines, and processes minerals such as iron ore, copper, and aluminum to produce materials for global industries. The company operates worldwide, finding better ways to work and share best practices to ensure safe, productive, and environmentally responsible operations.

 More than 20 years ago, Rio Tinto Kennecott created Daybreak, one of the nation’s most successful master planned communities, just one example of its commitment to responsible land stewardship.
